I will describe ongoing joint work with Olivier Biquard to construct
large families of complete Einstein metrics which are asymptotically modelled on arbitrary noncompact symmetric spaces of rank greater than one. The main result is that these Einstein metrics are parametrized by parabolic geometries (generalizations of conformal geometry) on the Shilov boundary at infinity.
