Department of Mathematics
Minimum Qualifications for Undergrad Appointments

For all positions, preference will be given to applicants whose cumulative math GPA is at least 3.5.

Undergraduate Assistants:

Departmental Undergraduate Assistants (UGAs) teach recitation classes for some entry-level courses.  UGAs should have at least Junior standing with an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, and should also have completed either MTH 235 or MTH 309. (There are also a limited number of positions which could be filled by outstanding students who have some statistics background; e.g., completion of both MTH 234 & STT 351 or completion of both MTH 133 & STT 231.)

UGAs must attend an orientation program held the week before classes begin. (Because of this, 'early move-in' access to university housing will be made available.)

Math Learning Center (MLC) Assistants:

MLC assistants tutor other undergraduates within the Math Learning Center. Tutors should have completed MTH 235 or MTH 309, have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (preferably 3.5), and a cumulative math course GPA of at least 3.5 (preferably 4.0). Applicants with more math background can be considered to tutor students in higher level courses.

Math Graders:

Math Graders assist course instructors with the grading of homework and quizzes and the proctoring quizzes and exams.  In addition, they monitor the gateway exams for MTH 116, 132 & 133.  Graders should have completed MTH 133, have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (preferably 3.5), and a cumulative math course GPA of at least 3.5 (preferably 4.0).  Applicants with more math background could qualify for other duties, such as grading for lecture courses.

Others:

From time to time, the department hires other undergraduates for specific jobs of various descriptions.
